Care Instructions

Elsie Grey Jewelry consist of several metals such as surgical stainless steel (earring posts), gold plating, silver plating and raw brass. Each piece is handmade with love and needs some TLC from time to time.

In order to keep your jewelry in great shape, please keep the pieces dry and do not bathe or shower or exercise with them on. Take them off at night and put your jewels on after applying perfumes or lotions.

Some of the jewelry may tarnish quicker than others, which could be caused from exposure to oils, chlorine, alcohol, acids and sulfur compounds. Depending on the acidity levels in your body, your skin may react to the metals causing the plating to tarnish or discolor. This can occur more in hot and humid climates. In this case, it is not our responsibility to exchange or refund your item.

Please do not wash your jewelry in any cleaners or chemicals for polishing. You may use a soft, dry jewelry cloth to remove dust.

To renew shine to your plated jewels (silver or gold plated only):

  1. Line a bowl with aluminum foil with the shiny side facing upwards.

  2. Add equal parts of baking soda and salt (roughly 1 tablespoon each) to the bowl.

  3. Add hot water to the bowl to dissolve the powders.

  4. Submerge only the silver or gold plated parts of your jewelry into the solution for 15-20 minutes. If required, add more water so your jewelry is fully submerged in the solution. You can leave your jewelry in the solution for a longer period of time if you feel that it isn’t shiny enough. Please DO NOT submerge any part of the non-plated parts (such as gemstones, acrylic stones, pearls, etc.) of the jewelry in the solution.

  5. Remove your jewelry from the solution and rub with a lint free cloth or a paper towel.

  6. Rinse the items under warm running water and dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.

For our jewels that are made with brass, it will oxidize over time and has small variations in color. To renew color and shine to your raw brass jewels:

  1. Combine water and lemon juice in a small bowl.

  2. Submerge only the brass part of your jewels for 15-30 minutes. You can use a soft cloth or soft-bristled toothbrush to gently remove the tarnish.

  3. Remove from the solution and rinse carefully and thoroughly with water. Pat dry with a soft cloth.

STORAGE

Store your jewels in a soft cloth or jewelry box. Do not store in a washroom. Prevent any exposure to sunlight and air as this will tarnish the metals. Elsie Grey Jewelry is not responsible for the maintenance and care of your jewelry.
